Hubballi: In a landmark development, the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a prestigious institution in North Karnataka, is set to witness a significant change in its leadership structure. For the first time in its history, the institute will have not one but two medical superintendents, symbolizing a new era of specialized healthcare administration.

The move comes as the government approved the creation of an exclusive post for the super speciality wing of KIMS. With a total of 13 departments in this wing, the decision to appoint a dedicated medical superintendent aims to enhance administration efficiency and elevate the quality of healthcare services provided.

Following the call for applications, four highly qualified doctors expressed their interest in the position. Among them were Dr. Ravindra Yaligar, Head of the Plastic Surgery Wing; Dr. Rajashankar, Pediatric Surgeon; Dr. Shashidhar K, Oncosurgeon; and Dr. Janaki Toravi.  Except Dr Janaki, all three attended the interview.

After a rigorous interview process conducted on Friday, a doctor having merit and experience will be selected as the inaugural Medical Superintendent of the Super Specialities Department, said Dr Ramalingappa Antartani and said that name of the doctor would be announced soon.

In addition to this historic appointment, Dr. Arunkumar C will continue to serve as the Medical Superintendent for the general hospital. The decision to bifurcate the roles aims to provide focused leadership for both the general and super speciality wings, ultimately improving overall healthcare administration and services at KIMS.
